{Our oh-so-soft shag!} |
When hubs and I first moved to Nashville 4 years ago we always rented houses with hardwood floors throughout (except bathrooms and kitchens). Well that was no different when we bought our first home. However, growing up and through college I always had carpet in my bedroom, so my feetsies had a major wake up call when everything was hard surfaces. {I'm serious. It took awhile to get used to!} Now I'm not complaining, I prefer the look of hardwoods over carpet. But it wasn't until we purchased a rug for our bedroom that we found what we had been missing out on all these years. Oh the softy goodness of waking up to a rug under foot. HEAVEN I tell you.
I don't think I would mind the bare wood with that fire going!
Love the ceiling here. The traditional runner is all this room needs
for a little added comfort under foot.
Looking a little skimpy coming out from underneath the bed,
but I guess it could do the trick.
I know which side of the bed I'd want to wake up on!
Love the layered rug look!
Now I'm a hardwood kind of girl myself, but it's rooms like these that could definitely make me change my mind...
The colorful pillows and throw really give this room the punch of color it needs to stand out from the white walls and builder beige carpet. This room would not be the same without the pops of black.
Beautiful room, but are those Bambi stools? Ek!
I'm a sucker for window seats. Cute side table lamp too!
I like this room, but I would change up the matchy matchy mirror.
Love the rug and tufted bench {the valances (keep the panels) and chair would have to go}
Complete with mirrored 4 poster bed, this room would be perfect for the ultimate glam girl.
Those paneled walls are gorgeous. Love the colors here.
One day I hope to have a bedroom with symmetrical windows like this one. I'd hang the curtains just like this. I'd take the chandelier while we're at it too.
Casual and cozy - would make a great guest room.
So what'll it be? Carpet, hardwood, or rug?
I could go any way... love carpet if it's GOOD carpet... but love a beautiful rug over nice hardwoods too...

I'm a hardwood girl, but nothing beats a plush carpet under your feet on those cold winter mornings! Decisions decisions...

I like hard woods also but when you sleep with a dog in your room, carpet is the only way to go. Hardwoods are too noisy. The rest of the house....hardwoods all the way.
ReplyDeleteWood floors are definitely more aesthetically pleasing, but when you living in a chilly city the carpets are definitely a plus in the wintertime.. which is why you have throw/area rugs! You get the best of both worlds. I would love to wake up in any one of these beds, but the second image is breathtaking!

ReplyDeleteFor a bedroom I definitely prefer hardwood with a rug--it just looks so put together! I just found your blog via Natasha's and can't wait to read more! Please stop by mine!
ReplyDeletei'm a hardwood floor/area rug kinda girl! i love the sleekness (and cleanliness) of a hardwood and the customization of an area rug over top .. allows you to get more creative and play with pattern and texture ... the fav has a shag carpet installed in the bedroom now - i can't tell you how many times i've begged to remove it!

We just put hardwoods in our bedroom last week. Whata change! It feels funny in the morning. Still getting used to them but love it so far. Feels cleaner. And dog accidents won't be a prob!Thx!
ReplyDeleteSleeping well is tops in my book so if you have a noisy dog then carpets might be better. My pup isn't noisey but now sliiiiiiiiides when he jumps off the bed!
Here's a post about sleep you might like.

ReplyDeleteHi Rachel! Thanks for the comment on my blog today (www.swoonstylehome.com). I'm now your newest follower and *love* your blog! As for this post: I gotta go with hardwoods and rugs. Especially if you have pets and/or kids :) Hope to see you around Swoon again, and I will definitely be around here!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog today! I'm definately a hardwood person and we only have two rugs in our home. But I live in North Queensland, Australia which is very warm, 80% of the year, so we don't need to worry too much about keeping our feet warm!
ReplyDeleteThere are many merits with using hardwood as flooring but I still choose carpets because of its elegant look as well as its acoustic properties.
ReplyDeleteI choose rugs for my bedroom. I feel comfortable with it. I think bedroom without rugs won't be perfect.
ReplyDeleteThe green and zebra-patterned carpets look wonderful! They will absolutely make your day! But don't forget to clean them regularly. Dirty carpets and rugs may harbor bacteria, which can cause health problems to those dwelling inside the house.
ReplyDeleteThese are all so pretty! I have been looking for new Valances.

ReplyDeleteWow, that looks great!!! Amazing job!
Why choose one when you can have both? Placing a rug or a carpet over hardwood can add a sense of elegance to a room. Solid-colored carpets look good on wood surfaces. If you’re aiming for something accentuated, you can place your rug off-centered under your bed. The little tickles we get from our carpet feels relaxing in some ways!
ReplyDeletevery Exclusive information. Thanks for sharing. keep updating your blog.

The real deal! So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThey all look so nice, me personally, i'd go for hardwood. I like the way it looks and that look can be adjusted as others have said with added rugs etc.
ReplyDelete“Bedroom Flooring: Carpet or Hardwood?” - Well, it depends on the needs and lifestyle of the people living in the house. If you have kids crawling around the house, I suggest you opt for a carpet. This will make life easier for your kids because they can have a soft surface to play and crawl on. Plus, it’s safe for them, particularly if they fall down. But you also have to consider that cleaning a carpet is quite hard compared to cleaning hardwood floor.
ReplyDeleteHardwood floors and carpets are beautiful additions to your home. Your designs are really great!
ReplyDeleteThis post contains many useful info in every aspect. however one has to follow this information for better output.

Both kinds of flooring are good. However, it’s much better if you chose to carpet your bedroom. This is the place where you take a rest and sleep. And you don’t want to be disturbed by some noise and footsteps against hardwood.

Beautiful inspiration pics! I'd choose hardwood, but with lots of layers of rugs!
ReplyDeleteWe have been thinking about placing some carpet on the hardwood flooring. I always remember loving carpet as a kid. I would sometimes even lay on it and just fall asleep. http://www.smartchoicecarpetalabama.com/
