Weekend Plans

I'm hoping on a plane this afternoon for my best friend's bachelorette party in
Charleston, South Carolina! I couldn't be more excited!

I've never been before, and I am looking forward to see its southern charm for myself!

And check out our digs for the weekend. I snagged us a super cool condo right off King Street...

It's going to be pretty awesome if I do say so myself....
Hope you all have a fun weekend!

Dining Room Reveal

I have to tell you hubs was pretty proud of himself after all your sweet comments about his table. When I came home from work he had a smile on his face and reminded me how lucky I was to have him! :) Ok, ladies... enough of the flattery. He's starting to get a big head over here. :) I tease... he is wonderful!

Ok, on to the dining room. If you missed hubs building our table go {here} first.

Now let me remind you of the before...

And now....

This is how it normally looks. Sort of going for the "less is more" look right now, but I'm on the look out for a centerpiece I love. I also have some ideas for the back wall but it's proving hard to find, so we'll see.

But for now we are getting lots of use out of our dining room!

I got bored with my make shift centerpiece so decided to get out the wedding china and set up for a dinner party!

Want to come? ;)

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Guest Posting @ The Mustard Ceiling Tomorrow

Tomorrow I'll be over on Elizabeth's creative blog - The Mustard Ceiling. If you haven't checked out her blog yet - you totally should. Her and her husband have been working like crazy fixing up their brick ranch. I just love their style!

Check out their dining room BEFORE...

And AFTER...

And their beautiful living room...

Love those pillows!
 Amazing stuff, right?

Tomorrow I'll also be posting our dining room AFTER photos, so check back here too!

On to the Dining Room

The dining room got the white wash treatment as well as the same bamboo shades and curtains as the living room {it's really one long room}. Other than that it sat empty for quite a while...

We finally decided to do something about it.

Remember this pile of wood we tore out of the house from {this} post?

Well there were some boards that caught hubs eye before it was hauled away. He picked through the pile and found some door jams in decent shape with some really neat coloration...

And thus began hub's operation table build...

After fixing them up a bit we brought them upstairs to see how they looked. We flipped and moved them around until we found a pattern pleasing to our eyes...

We debated staining the boards darker or using a clear coat to preserve their natural coloring...

The edges are pretty rough here...

So hubs cut them clean and lined them up...

Then numbered them so our chosen pattern wouldn't get mixed up...

These were the pieces he pried off the door jams and will use as finishing strips...

Here goes nothing...

At this point it was still going to be a toss up if this was going to work or not. Were the boards going to lay flat, stay together, and look good doing it?

Only time will tell, so it was on to the stain {after lots of sanding, of course!}. Looking back I'm so glad we decided to stain it a darker color.

On to the legs... The inspiration for the legs came from a table that caught our eye a while back. It's a beautiful table from Ethan Allen, but with a $1500 price tag it wasn't meant to be ours.

So when you have a husband like mine - he will make it happen. He actually went to the store, took some measurements, came back home, and got to work. God love him.

Looking good, babe!

I told hubs I wanted to write something on the bottom and asked what he thought it should say. With no hesitation he said, "To my wifey".  It was so cute. I also wrote something about how it was built with wood from our first house.

Here you can see how he used the "finishing strips"...

Almost finished. Hubs spent a lot of time down in the garage working diligently on this table. I appreciate it more than he will ever know.

And here she is right side up in all her glory!!!

I LOVE this table and I will never forget the craftsmanship, patience, love, and attention to detail that went into making it.

Next I'll show you how she looks in her very own room!

PS- I'm guest blogging over at True Life: We're Married which Jocelyn and her husband are away on vacation! Check out the post {here}!
