Guest Bedroom Rug

Ok guys, I need your opinion. We're finally starting to fix up the office (progress pictures to come) and I ordered an "orange" Fallen rug from - can you guess? - Overstock. It came promptly but wasn't quite the "orange" we were hoping for in our Auburn themed office. It's going to be hub's office, in case you were wondering. But back to the rug...

We kept it in the office for a day or so trying to make it work, but then we had to face the facts. This rug had WAY more pink in it than we hoped.  Our tipping point was when I brought our guest room pillow in and plopped it down on the rug.

Yup, it was coral.

BUT... don't you think that meant it was fate to live in our guest room? I think so too! However, it's a 5x8 rug. If we wanted to put it all the way under the bed we'd need an 8x10. However we messed with it in the room a little and I think it looks good like this....

Do you? (ignore the wrinkles and bad photography)

Hubs thought it looked too small at first, and thought it should go under the length of the bed like the rug in our {master bedroom}.

Of course I'd love to have our guests wake up and step foot onto a rug.

However, placing it like it is still gives some relief to potential cold feetsies and lets the pattern steal the show. I love seeing the pop of color and pattern on the floor in there.

So what do you think?

Does it work in the space?

  1. I love it! Love both the colour and the way it fits in that room! I say keep it, as it really looks like it was MADE for that space!

  2. I think it looks great just the way it is. It has just enough pop of color and pattern to keep the room open and lively!

  4. It is a tough call when the rug does not seem to be a "perfect" size or fit and I have also battled with this issue. Have you tried/are you open to placing the rug at a diagonal to the bed? You might have sufficient rug for guests to feel underfoot as well as that pop of color and pattern at the foot of the bed. Something to consider. I like the room very much.

  8. I love the color and the pattern and it feels as though you purchased it for this room rather than simply having it end up there. Unless you ended up spending way more $ on the rug than you typically would for the guest room, I'd keep it. I also like Lisa's suggestion of seeing how the rug fits on a diagonal, and even doing it slightly off center so the majority of the rug is exposed to the side of the room you enter from (the area you see the most rug footage). For the other side of the bed you could have a small throw rug by the nightstand for a "feet friendly feel" if that remains a concern. Let us know what you decide.

  9. Perfect color for the guest room. Do they have a larger size? If so I would probably change it out with a larger one. Another solution is to put a large sisal rug down and use this as the center. Just a few thoughts. Hugs, Marty

  10. I love the feel that it has added to your guest bedroom. I would most definitely leave it. I feel going larger would overwhelm the space. Right now it is an accent with a punch, I do not think that you want to loose that feel. I would think about adding a pad, if the wrinkles do not work themselves out soon. :) Love it!

  17. I love that rug too! Add me to the list of one who wants it as well! I'm stalking it and another coral one on Rugs USA. I am on the fence about the size. Honestly, it does look a little small. That being said, it's a guest room that won't get much use, and if you're anything like me, you probably do not want to spend $$$ on a huge rug that gets little use. I would keep it!

  20. I love the idea someone else mentioned of buying a larger, neutral rug and placing this one in the middle. It's a beautiful rug! I also love your drapes in the guest room!

  23. It instantly warms the tone of the room and makes it more cosy and inviting. Love that cushion too.

  24. I really like it like that actually! (and just adore that suzani pillow on the bed... where is that from?) Have you tried pulling it up closer to the headboard a few feet? You'll still see the pattern but then will give your guests something to step on when they get out of bed... just a thought! : )

  25. Love it! it was made for that room! I think if it were me, I'd scoot it under the bed a bit more.

  26. Wow, can't believe everyone thinks it fits so well.....hate to disagree but it's just too small. The rug as is looks like a throw-rug....which is okay if that's what you are going for. But a bigger size would look like a substantial piece, leaving more of a border of hardwood around the room. It's sometimes hard to cover up such a nice floor but it looks more cozy. The drapes tend to have a "heavy" look when paired with the "punchy" rug--
