But first things first. Remember how I told you we are only the second owners of this 1960 ranch? Well the lady that lived here before did not want to leave, even when it became physically impossible for her to get in and out of the house. What was their solution? Put in an elevator. Duh.
Hubs and I would have loved to keep the thing around longer, especially for the move. However since we wanted to refinish the floors before we moved in we knew it was best to get it out and patch up the floor. Plus we sold it for a pretty penny which helped with our renovation plans. It also allowed us to add back the third bedroom/office's precious floor and closet space.
First official day owning the house: taking the elevator for it's last ride...
Going up!
Second floor: the kitchen!
Bye bye elevator!
Nice knowin' ya
All gone!
Sadie was not allowed in the house for a few days...
Subfloor - check!
Red oak hardwoods laced in: check!
Dark stain to match the original hardwoods: check!
Now it was time to build back the closet
Hubs and his dad putting up the header
So once the closet was rebuilt and the drywall put up the hallway looked like this...
For so long that Ryan and I hardly noticed it anymore. But that changed this weekend- FINALLY! I'll post what we did either tomorrow or Friday... as soon as I can get some good pics!
I am your newest follower and found you over at All Things Bright and Beautiful! Loving your blog and all your great eye candy. You are so talented!
ReplyDeleteI've always dreamed of having an elevator. Looks good so far and I'm sure once the wall is painted you won't even be able to tell there was anything there.
ReplyDeleteOMG that is a-maz-ing! Ya'll did a great job! I am super impressed you and Ryan were able to tackle this. War Eagle!
ReplyDeleteAn elevator??!! Wow!! Looking forward to more pictures of this...crazy!! I don't know about you but I would buy another house that we need to "fix" in a heartbeat - just because you can really do what you want with it - as you've shown us.
ReplyDeleteWow! I hate elevators so I don't think I would've been riding in it at your house. ;) It is a cool little story for your home, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMan you have been busy!! Looking good!

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! You had an elevator? How strange. Your lucky that your hubs could take it out.
ReplyDeleteSay, can borrow him for a while? Ha ha!
This is both amazing in that it had the elevator to begin with and in that you were able to take on such an ambitious project..I am doubly impressed! Glad you were able to make it work for you!
