Working on the Guest Room

I'll be the first to admit our guest rooms needs some attention. It's functional and all, but it's pretty blah at the moment. Well that's about to change and I'm pretty darn excited about it! I'm expecting guests at the end of the month, and I want it lookin' good awesome by then!

I have my childhood cherry finished dressers in there and although I'd love to freshen them up with a coat of primer and paint I just can't bare the thought of it. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE believer in painting wood {furniture, cabinets, paneling, etc.}, but the sentimental side of me won't let me come near these pieces with a paintbrush. Anything else though is free game. I wouldn't bat an eye sanding down and painting anything from a thrift store, but there is just something different about these dark wood, brass handled dressers. And let's face it, I'm sure one day I'll be glad I didn't paint it. So that means I need color and accessories to liven up the space.

We used to have this green pickstich coverlet from Pottery Barn (see pic below) on our bed but since we made an upholstered headboard in a patterned fabric I wanted all white bedding for the master. Stay tuned for the master bedroom reveal when it's my turn to host for our Roomspiration Blog Hop & Link Party -- Sept 30-- get your masters ready!!

Anyway, back to the guestroom... the transfer was made from our bed to the guest bed...

I love the color and definitely wanted to incorporate it into the new scheme. So when I was scourging my go-to store - Brentwood Interiors - looking for fabric for another project a couple months ago...

up and down the neutral aisles....

...I couldn't help but wonder through the colorful ones as well.

And boy am I glad I did because it was love at first sight...

You can't see the entire pattern and colors from this photo, but trust me - it only gets better. I couldn't get this fabric out of my head. I knew it was perfect for the guest bedroom and was pretty much sold after taking a swatch home. It looked fabulous next to the green coverlet!

Here are some sneak peaks for the guest room. I took these with my iPhone at the store while getting advice and dimensions from my fabulous MIL! She has graciously offered to make pillows AND curtains for the guest room, and let me just tell you that she is quite the seamstress! Lucky me!

We popped into our hometown last Sunday to help celebrate hub's sweet grandmother's birthday and to my surprise... the pillows were ready! I was so excited to take them home and am more than pleased with how they turned out! Now I'm super motivated to get the rest of the room all spruced up! Thank you Mrs. Debbie!

Hope you all have a fun and safe Labor Day Weekend!

  1. OH my gosh, I LOVE Brentwood Interiors! We got a great deal on a rug there and they have the best selection of fabric. My mom is an interior designer in Brentwood and that is her go to stop for clients as well as for herself! It's so cool to read a blog that mentions places I know.
